An idyllic circular hiking trail with start and finish at the Wemkendorfer Krug. The path leads in small parts along little-traveled asphalt roads but mostly on sandy paths through the landscape. A highlight of the tour is the OOWV's drinking water educational trail. The hiking trail is marked with a white W on a black background!

The Wemkendorfer Krug is a good starting point for this circular route. You can stop there at the beginning or at the end of your walk. If you are lucky, you can see birds of prey in the neighboring pasture that do their rounds hunting. The path leads you either on small asphalt roads, but mostly on sandy paths through the landscape. You will pass the waterworks of the Oldenburg-East Frisian Water Association. Here you can visit the drinking water educational trail, which is open all year round, free of charge. You will learn a lot about groundwater, water use, water pumping and drinking water distribution. If you register in advance, the OOWV also offers free guided tours through the waterworks and the nature trail. http://www.oowv.de/wissen/lehrpfade-und-infostandorte/informationereinrichtungen/trinkwasserlehrpfad-in-nethen/

Immediately afterwards you have to cross Wiefelsteder Straße. You should be careful here as the cars go very fast here. On the other side of the main road you come back to a sandy path. On the left you can see the ponds belonging to the OOWV waterworks. On the right side you can see a former quarry pond that is used privately today. The sand path leads you to the Molberger, on which you turn left. After about 100 meters you will see the entrance to the "Steenforths-Moor" on the right side of the street. Various habitats such as forest, Sanmagerrasen and wet meadow can be seen on the site. Small signs along the way draw attention to the special features of the area. You can eat from the numerous fruit trees. You can find an information flyer on both of the OOWV's educational trails here. It is worthwhile to look at this area as a whole, because the paths and nature are particularly beautiful here. The Nethener Kirchweg leads you through an idyllic landscape with fields and meadows on both sides. Here you can still experience the Ammerland park landscape in its original form. The fields are crossed by hedgerows, the paths are lined with avenues of trees. In places you are near the motorway, but most of the time you will be amazed at the peace and quiet during the walk. At harvest time, you may also see the farmers' agricultural machines in action. Then the rest is interrupted, but it is also an experience. The path can be walked in all seasons and enables you to experience it in an impressive way. In the mornings and evenings, with a bit of luck, you will encounter rabbits and deer. There are various ways to shorten or lengthen the route. Author & Photos: Marlis Puls
