Very nice circular walk from the train station in Westerstede-Ocholt to the watermill in Howiek and back. The trail is marked with a white H on a black background.

On a narrow path you pass the Draisinen-Ostbahnhof (with rest area) and come through a small forest area, past the rest area "Howieker Inhanger", to the Howieker watermill. The Howieker watermill was built in 1608 and there are numerous interesting stories about it On a beautiful, narrow path it goes over the "Karlshofer Straße", which is partly still paved with the original clinker bricks, to the bathing lake "Karlshof". If you like, you can take a refreshing bath here. The water is indeed not clear, but of good quality. The water quality has been checked regularly for decades and it has always been perfect. In earlier years the peat was transported from the Fintlandsmoor to the train station in Ocholt by means of lorries. Since these carts were still pulled by horses in the early years of the last century, this path is still called the "horse tram" to this day. Past the fire brigade and past the school, you get back to the starting point at the "Westerstede-Ocholt" station There is a café and shops there. The route is varied and mostly wooded or runs along hedgerows. You can also start the hike near the watermill, there is parking (free) at the corner of “Karlshofer Straße” - “Up de Höh”, navigation address: “Up de Höh” in 26655 Westerstede, district Howiek.

Navigation address for the parking lot (free of charge) at the “Westerstede-Ocholt” train station: “Westersteder Str. 158” in 26655 Westerstede, Ocholt district
